Booming job growth brings challenges for Collin County

With its relatively low taxes, solid school systems and hands-off regulatory environment, Collin County has been a magnet for relocating and expanding companies of all sizes. But all of those new jobs and people bring challenges such as traffic congestion and the need for more police officers, new fire stations and schools. That puzzle was at the heart of a panel discussion Friday in Plano in a “State of the Business” session put on by the Collin County Business Alliance.
Before the panel discussion, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott praised Collin County’s track record for attracting new business. “You have taken what used to be wheat fields, corn fields, cotton fields and cattle pastures, and you’ve turned it into one of the most economically vibrant regions in the entire country,” he said. “It’s a region that is truly a magnet to businesses from across the country and around the globe.” He said Collin County’s intellectual firepower is keeping new companies streaming in and existing companies in place.
